Chelsea make contact with risky move for impressive South American coach

Chelsea have been linked to former River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo, who stepped down recently after winning it all (a couple of times) with the Argentine giants.

It’s an unlikely move, but inevitable really given Todd Boehly and co. want to make it well known that they’re spreading the net wide and speaking to a lot of candidates. Gallardo wants to come to Europe to test himself after dominating South America, and Chelsea will now have until the summer to decide if they want to roll the dice on a potentially brilliant – but unquestionably risky – appointment.

He’s proven himself a brilliant coach in South America, and there’s been years of speculation linking him to top European clubs – but the jump to the Premier League would be a testing one.

A move to Barcelona, PSG or Real Madrid would feel more natural, and we can’t see the board taking such a big risk on even the most talented coach – unless he can put forward an exceptional case in an interview…
