Chelsea may have dodged a bullet after Nagelsmann u-turn

We thought Julian Nagelsmann was a shoo-in as Chelsea’s next coach, and clearly he did too.

The managerial prodigy was rather unexpectedly on the market after things went sour at Bayern, and the timing was just right for Chelsea. He was heavy favourite from the moment Graham Potter was sacked, so what went wrong?

Well according to a piece in the Daily Mail today, Nagelsmann pulled out of the race because he didn’t like having to wait around while Chelsea interviewed other potential bosses. We’re not sure if that’s just ego or what, but it’s not a great sign of humility if just the simple fact you’re not the only person being looked at puts you off taking the job.

It may be that one day we regret not taking out chance on a future great of the coaching game – but we may also have dodged a bullet in this case.
