Chelsea’s decision to sack Graham Potter was at once totally predictable (and far too late, in most people’s opinions) but also totally shocking, given what had come before.
Todd Boehly and the rest of the clowns in charge of the circus had backed their chosen man through a historically bad run of results, given him hundreds of millions to spend, waited for him to string three wins and a draw together – and just when it seemed like Potter would get the rest of this season and the summer to try his best – he was gone.
According to Matt Law’s piece in the Telegraph last night, the players were as surprised of the rest of us – with many of them finding out about the decision in the same club statement that the rest of us read.
What a total mess, and what a fresh PR mess for the calamitous ownership to step into.
