Matt Law’s Daily Telegraph column today claims that Chelsea’s players are “convinced” that Luis Enrique or Julien Nagelsmann will be their next coach, and adds some interesting detail on Bruno Saltor’s role as caretaker.
Law says that there are “concerns” about Bruno taking over until the end of the season from the playing staff. Bruno is inexperienced, very much part of the catastrophic Graham Potter regime, and quite clearly personally effected by his old boss and friend’s sacking.
To be fair to the players, we’re worried about the exact same thing. The impression he gave off last night was of a man who was doing this against his will out of a sense of duty, and not of a man who was really prepared or able to turn round a horror season.
Some will say they should be more concerned about their own performances, which is fair enough, but whether or not we get a new man in soon, nobody thinks that Bruno staying more than a few days is a good idea.
