Chelsea hired Frank Lampard last week as the interim manager at the club after sacking Graham Potter.
Lampard has come in as caretaker until the end of the season, and then Chelsea are expected to appoint their next long-term manager. Things have certainly not gone to plan yet in terms of managers at the club under the new ownership, so they will need to make sure that they get the next decision absolutely spot on.
One major tactical flaw that Chelsea failed with vs Real Madrid!
There’s been many rumours regarding who might come in and various managers being spoken to in the last couple of weeks, but the noise has since died down a little.
Sky’s Jamie Carragher believes that this is because they have already made their decision on the next manager, and we could find out more on that in the next few weeks.
The former Liverpool captain believes that Lampard is bought in now because Chelsea already know their next manager.
In words cited by The Daily Mirror, Carragher says: “If a manager has an option between Chelsea and Spurs, I think they will choose Chelsea in terms of giving them more chance of a window, and maybe a bigger transfer kitty.
“The fact that they put Frank Lampard in tells me they may already have someone lined up, but that person will come in the summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes out in the next few weeks that Julian Nagelsmann has agreed to join Chelsea, but he wanted some time out and to get ready for the summer and have a pre-season.
“I might be totally wrong, and they might not have anyone and are still working on it, but to sign Frank straight away and not give it another week to get someone in for a couple of months, makes me feel they have something already lined up for the summer.”
