Frank Lampard admits to worrying Chelsea flaw ahead of Real Madrid clash

Things are not about to get any easier for Chelsea and Frank Lampard this week and moving into the rest of the season. If anything, the upcoming fixtures are just getting harder and harder.

Having lost his first three games back in charge of Chelsea, Lampard now has to face Real Madrid back at Stamford Bridge chasing a two goal deficit from the first leg if they are to stand any chance at all of making something out of this season.

Chelsea have been terrible all season, and Lampard has yet been able to change that. But one of the worrying admissions that Lampard has made about his players ahead of the Champions League clash this week is that they are not physically fit enough.

“At the minute, it has been mostly conversations and meetings than training pitch stuff,” Lampard said when asked about his training so far. “Training pitch stuff was all pretty walkthrough and low level because of the [tiredness] in the legs.

“It is more about speaking to the players individually. When we do get the chance to work, I think the team needs some physical work. I think that’s important for us because at this level you have to be right on the limit and we are not on the limit right now.

“I think that can be a capacity thing with the players for whatever reason. It doesn’t matter how we got there but it needs to be addressed now.”

Of course players get fatigued, it’s a long season with many games, but that is the same for all the top clubs in Europe, so why are Chelsea’s players not fit enough?
