Frank Lampard faces big question over whether to shake up his tepid front 3 right away

Frank Lampard has only picked one team since returning to Chelsea as a caretaker manager, against Wolves on Saturday.

That team lost 1-0, and even more disturbingly showed all the lifeless lack of intent in attack we’ve seen all season under Graham Potter.

The front 3 of Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Kai Havertz was pretty much what Potter had been running with in his final weeks as boss, without much success.

From Lampard’s point of view, he’s in a tricky situation. They are perhaps the 3 most experienced and potentially dangerous attackers he has available to him, but they let him down on Saturday, and he can’t be expecting them to do much better against Real Madrid.

On the other hand, chopping and changing your front line after giving them just one chance might seem reactionary. And it’s not like Mykhailo Mudryk, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech or the other options up top have looked much better.

Stick or twist – it’s a fascinating dilemma for a manager who has only been back in the job for a week.
