Frank Lampard dropped Kepa Arrizabalaga in his first spell as Chelsea manager, and there has been plenty of speculation since he arrived last week that the returning interim coach would do it again.
So far, we’ve predicted it wouldn’t happen – there just wasn’t enough time before the games to get Edouard Mendy back in as first choice. Lampard’s priority was to stabilise things, not upset them further. With just 10 or so games to go, it seemed like an avoidable extra layer of confusion after weeks of change.
But given we know Lampard has lost patience with Kepa once before, and given he was a little at fault for both goals last night, it doesn’t seem impossible that the coach does it now, with a game against Brighton this weekend to help Mendy get settled in before we play Madrid again next week.
While before the logic was to not disturb the balance, now perhaps we’re in a situation where any change would be a good one.

It’s a bit rich to blame kepa for the goals, he has 10 then 9 players in front of him all making mistakes everywhere, we have sub standard defenders, selfish midfield and no front line. Is it kepas fault we can’t string two passes together, and could score yo save our lives? A keeper is only as good as those infront of him allow him to be. And we are rubbish.
