Frank Lampard faces a tricky decision over Joao Felix tonight.
His Chelsea team need goals, and Felix is potentially their best chance of getting them. He certainly has the creativity and the talent to score, but as of yet hasn’t been able to convert some nice moments into goals.
Against a team as good as Real, he may be too much of a defensive liability too. But Lampard can’t worry too much about defending when his team need to score 3 goals to win.
The debate over whether to play him tonight feeds in to the general question about his future. The fact that it’s uncertain whether he should start tonight reminds us all that it’s by no means a no-brainer that he should be signed permanently this summer. Why buy a player who has been dropped for the biggest game of the season? What use is an £80m attacker if you don’t trust him in games like this?
