Graham Potter’s stinking stats grow worse with more defeats than wins or draws

If you’ve seen a Chelsea Premier League game with Graham Potter in charge this season, you’re more likely to have seen a loss than a draw or win.

That is the cold hard fact after today’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at home. Potter has now got a 7-7-8 WDL record, something that would be a tough sell at a far smaller side than Chelsea.

After a nice run of wins that had people optimistic, we’re right back to questioning how long he can possibly hold on with results like this.

  1. Sorry, but why does one loss (albeit a frustrating one where we were generally the better side) totally swamp what’s been an encouraging run of form? Due to the huge influx of players, I think we really must separate the results of the first half of the season from those in the last month or two. To sit back, as SuperFrank is doing, and lump it altogether just ignores the huge, inescapable fact that Potter has had to manage a massive squad overhaul (something akin to changing out the engine on an Airbus mid flight). To act like there shouldn’t be “turbulence” under such circumstances is simply stupid. If you must grade Potter on the re-build thus far then at least do on the basis of results since the end of the Jan transfer windows.
