“He really motivated us” – Kalidou Koulibaly reveals what Lampard did on Chelsea return

Kalidou Koulibaly’s interview in The Times today has some interesting details on Frank Lampard’s first few days at the club since the legend was appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Koulibaly has only been at the club since August, but he’s already seen his fair share of the madness that makes us the majority of life as a Chelsea player or supporter.

The latest chapter saw long term appointment Graham Potter sacked after 7 months and replaced by Frank Lampard, the man who was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January 2021.

Some players remain from Lampard’s first spell, but there are a crazy number of new signings like Koulibaly too, so the former midfielder had to introduce himself to everybody.

“[He] made a nice speech and tried to speak with everybody and involve everybody. I know that is difficult when you have a lot of players, like us, but he was really motivated and really motivated us,” the defender revealed.

But there was also a thought for the sacked Potter too:

“I sent him a message. He helped me a lot. It was difficult for me at first, changing country and moving everything after eight years [at Napoli] and I can tell him thank you. He’ll have a good future.”

Sadly the motivation didn’t work, and Chelsea slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Wolves. But Koulibaly was perhaps our best player in that game.
