“How is it possible?” – Former Blue shocked at major Chelsea issue

Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night as they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid.

This meant that they lost the tie overall 4-0 on aggregate. It was never going to be an easy draw for Chelsea up against such a big and impressive team. But in the second leg Chelsea played well and should have probably won the game. The 2-0 scoreline is not a true reflection of the game, but it is of course the only thing that essentially matters in terms of end result.

Chelsea had many chances and they should have scored more than one goal, potentially even three with the clear cut chances they had.

This frustrated former Chelsea captain Frank Leboeuf, who was watching the game as he always does. Leboeuf is now a Blues fan like all of us, and he was left hugely annoyed with Chelsea’s lacklustre finishing once again.

Writing in his exclusive and extensive Chelsea column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea this week, Leboeuf said: “Frank Lampard wanted to make sure they didn’t concede a goal and we had chances to score. N’Golo Kante had two, Marc Cucurella had one, so did Conor Gallagher. If they scored it would have been a different story, especially if Cucurella scored right before half time. We go back to the same issue, Chelsea cannot score a bloody goal!

“We really have a big confidence problem right now. How is it possible for these players, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix, to shoot so far away from the goal when they are only seven yards away from the goal? They have no confidence and they need to get that back.

“Kai Havertz had one shot on target and I said ‘what the hell is that shot?’ It was like he was passing the ball back to the goalkeeper, he did not want to shoot. SMASH IT!

“You don’t expect Kante to put the ball in the net much, but with the first chance he had the time to control the ball, he should have done better. And Cucurella had the time to put the ball to the side of Courtois with his right foot and score. I scored more than 100 goals in my career, and I said ‘why is he shooting from that side?’ The guy is three yards away, come back in the middle and put the ball to the side of the Courtois’.”
