Emanuel Petit has been speaking out about the subject of his old France teammate Zinedine Zidane.
In quotes picked up by the Daily Mail, Petit explained why it was clear that Zidane has no intention of coming to Chelsea, despite being linked by the papers.
“Zidane, he won’t come. Definitely. Do you know why? Because he doesn’t speak English. That’s the truth – because I have known Zidane for ages and the way he manages players, he’s very close, he always talks to his players. So he wants the communication to be a priority. Very important for him, he doesn’t want someone to translate everything he has to say publicly.”
He’s spot on. To be honest, we could have told you that weeks or even months ago.
The papers have linked Zidane with Premier League moves year after year, apparently without paying attention to his actual intentions. If he wanted to work in England at some point, he would have learned English. He’s had two breaks from the game in the last few years, and never got round to that.
We’ve seen coaches pick up basic English in just a couple of months, and if Zidane has decided not to, that gives you some pretty strong message about his intentions.
Perhaps now that someone who knows him well has said it, people will actually listen.
