“If you don’t believe” – Frank Lampard highlights ‘percentage’ that can win you games

It was yet another night and another Chelsea performance to forget last night and has left Chelsea fans feeling glum once again.

Any hope or optimism that they might have had before the Real Madrid game last night, soon dwindled not long into kick off.

Sources: Chelsea prepare fresh new terms for Mason Mount!

The Blues lost 2-0 in the Champions League quarter final, meaning they have a massive uphill to climb to stand any chance at all of going through in the second leg.

Real Madrid were just a much better team, and the worrying thing was that they were not even out of second gear against us really. It could have easily been four or five goals.

Chelsea just weren’t at the races, they lacked confidence, belief, and intensity, and you cannot coach that. Manager Frank Lampard was asked about having belief in football matches and if that is enough to win you games in the post-match presser, and he says it’s a big percentage that can win you games.

Lampard said: “If you don’t believe at the top level of sport… things will go your way, that’s a percentage of the game, the mindset and believe. We’re in a place where we want to prove things wrong, change the tone, change the story.”

Lampard was then asked what practical things he can you do in the next week to give players more belief they will score.

He said: “I get that question a lot. My first feeling is work on the training pitch but when I consider the work that we do, we work a lot on the last third, finishing and crosses and the idea we want to get across. That’s pretty clear, I don’t think we can go much further than we do. The last bit is sometimes confidence whether it’s an individual thing or team confidence. I think I come back to the work side of it then. If you work, keep going, something can change. Mason’s chance at the end might go in and the tie feels completely different, the early parts of the game we might get a goal. Continue to work, speak to the players. No play doesn’t want to score a goal. Sometimes they need support confidence and a push in a positive way. Not just next week, it’s my job until the end of the season because it’s been happening and I’ve come into this and it’s my job to address it as well as I can.”
