Frank Lampard couldn’t use Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Tuesday night’s defeat to Real Madrid because the striker isn’t registered in the Champions League squad – however Lampard did bring him on as a sub against Wolves last week.
After four games without a goal, Chelsea are getting desperate, and in the press conference today, Lampard was asked whether Auba was in his plans. The manager’s response was not overwhelmingly positive, and seemed to hint that the striker would need to improve his performance in training if he wanted starts:
“We’ll see in that one [starts for Aubameyang]. I don’t want to go position specific. What I do want to say is, the players have to feel when they train and when they turn up for training and how they prepare, the competitive nature in the squad to get a place in the team needs to be high in every position,” Lampard said in quotes in Football.London.
