Towards the end of Tuesday night’s game with Liverpool, we noticed that Enzo Fernandez was still on the pitch, still getting himself about after 90 minutes in the engine room.
Even N’Golo Kante had gone off for a break at this point, but Enzo was still out there. It’s become quite the theme for him. He’s played almost every minute of every one of the 11 games the club has played since he joined on deadline day in January.
But he’s not complaining – and in fact he seems to relish the physical challenge.
He spoke to the club’s official website and spoke about how he was enjoying playing in the Premier League, and how he was adapting to a new style of football:
“It’s a very tough league, I am coming from the Portuguese League where sometimes you play more with the ball.
“Here the game is faster and more physical so I am adapting step by step. I know it is going to take time but I have the support from my team-mates and the coaching staff so I can adapt quicker and better here.
“I describe myself as with the characteristics to always have the ball, always play nice football, building up with passes. I like this type of football, keeping the possession, building up the game with passes and then attacking the spaces.”
It’s been a great adaptation so far. Not only has he managed to keep up physically with the demands of so many minutes, he’s actually fitted in perfectly. Against Liverpool his stats were superb for both winning the ball and using it, and it looks like this is just the start.
