Mason Mount was left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Wolves with a recurrence of the pelvic injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for much of 2023.
The midfielder hasn’t played since February, initially after being dropped by Graham Potter, and subsequently because of a medical issue which had a major setback on Friday. After two games where he was an unused substitute, Mount was back out of the group entirely yesterday.
A lot of fans are speculating that there is no injury, and that the academy product is being frozen out of first team action on the orders of those upstairs because he won’t sign a new contract.
Simon Johnson is a well connected Chelsea correspondent, and his piece for the Athletic doesn’t hint at any suspicions of foul play. We will take that to mean there isn’t any – but it’s very easy to see why people are starting to question the reality of the situation as these “convenient” set backs pop up.
