Mason Mount will have just one year left on his contract after this season, meaning there are strong links that Chelsea will sell him in the summer.
Super agent Haydn Dodge has been writing in his Caughtoffside column about how the midfielder would be a perfect option for Liverpool, Arsenal, and any other team being linked with him. He says that Mount was a “big target” for the Reds before, and points out that the England connection with a lot of the players there makes him a great option.
“I know Mason Mount was a big target for Liverpool around the same time, but both Mount and Rice may be Arsenal bound, and I know there are some communications with Arsenal to have those two based in their midfield,” he wrote.
“I think Rice suits Arsenal’s style of play and has everything needed as a modern day midfielder, but that equally applies to Chelsea and Liverpool. For example, If I’m a Liverpool fan and I’ve potentially got a midfield of Harvey Elliott, Declan Rice and Mason Mount, plus the other players they’ve already got there, that’s a real big positive and could potentially be an England midfield for years to come.”
What’s ridiculous of course is that if Mount is a perfect option for Liverpool and Arsenal, then he’s an even better option for Chelsea. He offers us everything he offers them, plus he’s a home grown academy kid with a love for the club.
That’s why selling him – especially to rivals in the Premier League – would be so maddening.
