Raheem Sterling has denied that he has regrets about moving to Chelsea in an interview published by the Athletic.
The winger was the first marquee signing of the Todd Boehly ownership, and seemed like he would slot nicely in to the thriving Thomas Tuchel system already in place.
But things have gone dreadfully wrong since then, and Sterling’s personal poor performances have been part of the team’s overall shocking displays.
This led to chatter that Sterling might want to leave this summer, which he’s now shot down.
“Performances haven’t been at the level they should, mine included. I haven’t been anywhere near my usual level,” the winger said.
“We want the results and winning trophies to be the main attraction for the football club like it has been for so many years. That’s why I came here, because of the rich history and with the new owners and new direction, it was a no-brainer. And I have no regrets at all.”
Of course, he would say that. But we think that he’s happy to be back in London, and will be working to turn things round to his favour rather than bailing after just a year. We’re sure that in a competent team he can still thrive – but it remains to be seen whether we can build that around him.
