“Schoolboy defending” – Pundit slams Chelsea player after poor defeat

One action from one Chelsea player yesterday has been branded as ‘schoolboy defending’ from a pundit after Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa.

It marks the continuation of a really terrible few months in Graham Potter’s reign as Chelsea boss, and Blues fans have turned. They pretty much collectively now want Potter sacked as Chelsea manager, with many feeling he is completely out of his depth.

Villa’s first goal was a gift by Chelsea. Well, more specifically, it was a gift by defender Marc Cucurella, who headed the ball through to put Ollie Watkins in on goal. I have no idea what Cucurella was even thinking, and former Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has rightly branded it as schoolboy defending, because it absolutely was.

In words picked up by The Metro, Hendire said: “First and foremost, you have to say, it is schoolboy defending from Cucurella.

“I don’t understand why he is running into that area. I’m not sure whether Koulibaly has given him a shout but it really is a golden gift for Ollie Watkins.”

And that pretty much sums it up perfectly. Chelsea couldn’t recover from that and Villa went on to score a second goal and embarrass Potter’s team even further.
