The one Chelsea player to come out of Brighton defeat with credit

Chelsea have just lost to Brighton at home (this is not a surprise anymore) and the whole team were pretty poor.

We can think of only one player who really came out of the game with an improved reputation. Kepa made some nice saves and Conor Gallagher put a shift in and made some chances, but it was only Mykhailo Mudryk who can confidently say he’s improved his chances of future starts.

The Ukraine international hasn’t been trusted much since his January arrival, today he got 90 minutes, defending hard and creating more than most of his teammates.

He got the assist of Gallagher’s goal, and generally impressed Stamford Bridge both with his skill and his work rate.

He may well have played his way into Frank Lampard’s plans for Tuesday night, when we face Real Madrid at home looking to pull off an extremely unlikely comeback.

His future is secure – which is more than you can say about most of his colleagues.
