It’s all change at Chelsea, with Graham Potter out and Frank Lampard in as caretaker manager.
For a squad that is already bloated with all manner of options, that likely means changes.
So which players are most likely to benefit? Those who fell out of favour under Potter are obvious candidates, but we just don’t know the situation with some of these. It could be that the recently sacked boss was being told not to use some of these guys.
The obvious main candidate is Mason Mount – a key player for Lampard in his first spell, but not featuring at all in recent weeks under Potter. Assuming there’s nothing coming from the board telling coaches not to play him, he should be right back in.
Then there’s Edouard Mendy, who was in great form under Lampard in their shared half season. Kepa will keep his place on Saturday, but the pressure is back on him.
Finally Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so frozen out you’d be forgiven for forgetting he’s at the club, will surely have a better chance of playing under Lampard. He couldn’t really have less of a chance, to be fair…
