Chelsea’s misery continued on Saturday losing 1-0 to Wolves away from home.
The mood picked back up after Frank Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea boss in midweek, but the mood soon dwindled yet again. Chelsea fans are used to that this season.
Exclusive: Former Chelsea captain’s personal column!
Graham Potter was sacked last weekend after a terrible run of form and performances this season, and now Lampard is tasked with picking up the pieces.
Lampard has only had a couple of days training with this new Chelsea squad, with of course many of them not being here the first time he was Chelsea manager.
I don’t think anyone expected miracles yesterday, but they also didn’t expect Chelsea to be that god awful, and they were truly terrible. The players were litter, there are no two ways about it.
And Lampard’s Uncle, Harry Redknapp, has firmly placed the blame on the players, and he’s absolutely spot on as well.
As cited by The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “They were poor! I’ve watched the game here, and it was a disappointing first half – they were awful.
“But what can you do, he’s had no chance to work with them players, he’s been there two days, so the players have to look at themselves.
“You look at that group of players, they should never be losing, week in week out like they have done. Or lose too many games to be in the top four.”
