Thiago Silva returns to Chelsea training

There is, at last, a little flash of good news for Chelsea.

Thiago Silva was pictured back in training today for the first time with the group, after a knee injury picked up against Tottenham back in late February. Having him in the team might not have saved Graham Potter in the end, but it’s hard not to feel that things might have taken at least a slightly different course if he had been fit.

Sadly a return to training today, even if he was fully with the group, likely means that Wednesday’s game against Real Madrid comes too soon, and even next weekend’s match against Brighton is unlikely.

With a back four having struggled in Frank Lampard’s first game back at the weekend, we expect him to use a 343, and that will make Silva’s return all the more vital.
