“Things are looking good” for next Chelsea appointment as club race to get new manager in place

Chelsea sacked their coach on a Sunday night, play a match on Tuesday evening, then another on Saturday, and have two more next week.

There isn’t time to sit around and think about what happens next – they need to find a successor, and fast.

Julien Nagelsmann is out of work as has emerged as an early favourite, and this evening’s updates from German insider Florian Plettenberg are extremely positive on that front.

He says that talks are “ongoing” and that “things are looking good,” despite “no final decision” from Chelsea over whether he’s the man they want. They need to speak to a few candidates, and Nagelsmann is just the start.

After bungling their last appointment, Todd Boehly and co. will want to get this one right, and they shouldn’t rush for the sake of a few games over the coming weeks if it’s going to lead to another bad decision.

Better to write off this season than make a rash decision that could cost us long term.
