Many Chelsea fans were frustrated by the efforts of their two attackers tonight, with Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix not making the most of their chances and not exactly pressing like lunatics either.
But Frank Lampard defended them, pointing out that they had a pretty thankless task leading the line with Chelsea sat so deep. “It was a tough match for them, in the system we played defensively,” Lampard explained.
That’s true, but they still could have worked a little harder to make Madrid uncomfortable at the back. After the chances of the first few minutes, they were all too quiet.
