Frank Lampard’s criticism of his players’ physical condition after the defeat to Brighton on Saturday picked up some press as it was taken as a criticism of Graham Potter, who has been in charge of preparing the group physically for most of the season.
Asked about it today, Lampard made it clear that he hadn’t intended it as a criticism of Potter. But equally, it’s hard to see how it can be anything else. The interim coach noted that a lot of it had to do with “individual responsibility,” perhaps shifting the blame more onto the players than the coaching staff.
