(Video): Mason Mount the last player off as he looks to send message to fans

Mason Mount didn’t play a minute of today’s game, despite being confirmed fit by Graham Potter yesterday, but after another poor result, after the rest of the squad had slunk off and he was well within his rights to do the same, Mount was the only player out to applaud the remaining fans at a drained and angry Stamford Bridge.

Perhaps it’s the early stages of a goodbye to his loyal fans, perhaps he’s just showing he cares. Either way, it’s appreciated.

You can see the midfielder doing his little tour in the clip embedded here:

  1. Maybe if he cared so much about Chelsea and the club faithful he’d sign a new contract and stop dithering about!

To have the owners saying “we want you and we want you long-term” and for the player to be changing agents midstream ought to cause a lot of questions about where his heart really lies. I agree that this business after the match definitely has the look of a player with one foot out the door, and the fact that it’s happening in the midst of a campaign where we need all hands on deck just throws Mount’s selfishness into starker relief. I’m sorry, but I don’t find much that’s admirable in his behavior, especially to the degree that the prolonged (strained?) contract negotiations seem to have severely impacted his form, rendering him useless to the side that is paying him to perform. Meanwhile, you’ve got a guy like Pulisic (who knows the club already have plans to sell him in the summer!) and he’s out on the pitch giving it his all. For so many Chelsea supporters to laud the former and generally loathe the latter just leaves me scratching my head. How can Mount remain your darling when he’s done next to nothing to help this team since before Qatar?
