(Video): “That will be part of the process” – How Chelsea are going to change the way they play out from the back

It was put to Frank Lampard today that Chelsea don’t look like a team that knows what it’s doing in possession, and that their playing out from the back was cautious and lacked the movement ahead to make attacks happen.

Lampard was sort of offended, but couldn’t really deny there was some truth to it.

He basically admitted it was true, and said that working on that “will be part of the process.”

He’s not going to have a lot of time on the training pitch to do it, that’s the worry.

  1. Why does an interim manager step in and start trying to implement major changes this late in the season??? He was brought in as a caretaker, not because we want him stamping his philosophies on the squad (we tried that once and it didn’t work, for goodness sake!). As recently as a few weeks ago we looked decent running a 3-4-3 with our best players (notably, James and Chilwell) back in the picture. Why on Earth is Frank Lampard moving back to a 4-3-3? We can all remember how miserably he failed in trying to implement it in his first stint at the club (when we regularly shipped 3 goals a game), and to go with that formation when you’ve opted to put Gallagher ahead of Kante is all the more criminal (almost as criminal as playing Cucurella ahead of Chilwell). Wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes necessary to sack Lampard before season’s end just to avoid a relegation battle.
