Winstanley and Stewart led push for Potter sacking

Well sourced Chelsea insider Matt Law was reporting from the coal face last night, with the late evening announcement that Graham Potter had been sacked catching everyone off guard.

Law was still ready to drop some exclusive bombs however – including information about which figures in the confusing new sporting structure at the club were behind this decision.

On the one hand it was the only correct move to make – on the other hand it’s a choice which undermines the entire strategy of the last 7 months.

Either way, Law says it came from Paul Winstanley and Laurence Steward, the suits appointed by Todd Boehly and the other owners over the winter as the top dogs. This one is a freebie for them, as Potter wasn’t their choice. But they will have to make a good call on his replacement, as things are spiralling badly now after a vast quantity of money spent.
