Chelsea have this morning been linked with Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, the Daily Express have claimed.
Supposedly we have “paid close attention” to the attacker’s performances in La Liga. Torres has had a frustrating time since returning to Spain, and this season has been used as a substitute more often than a starter, with just 13 of his 31 games in the top flight coming from the start of the game.
Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski arrived last summer to hoover up a lot of the minutes that were previously Torres’, plus towards the end of the season Xavi moved to a sort of hybrid formation that had Gavi out wide.
We can see why Torres might be keen to move, but this is not a move we would be positive about. Torres moved on from Manchester City after one year to Barcelona, and now not long after that is up for sale again. That tells its own story. While he’s got pace to burn and plenty of talent, we’re not sure he’s got the kind of grit and character to be part of a team which likely still has some dark time ahead before it gets back to the top again.
Still, with his value estimated at €30m by Transfermarkt, there’s always a chance we take a swing as we continue out endless hunt for a goalscorer.
