Chelsea’s goal of the season winner announced – and it may have changed the player’s career

Following the conclusion of the season, Chelsea have announced their award winners for the season.

The goal of the season award has gone to Conor Gallagher’s late winner against Crystal Palace way back at the start of October, back when Graham Potter was still on his good early run and the season had yet to collapse.

Gallagher also ended the season with a strong run in the lineup, with Mason Mount’s injury problems this year creating a huge number of opportunities for the midfielder.

Mount’s impending exit should also guarantee Conor stays next year, and you can in many ways trace a lot of this back to the superb hit from the academy product. The departure of Ruben Loftus-Cheek will mean selling further players who can operate in the centre is almost impossible.

He had struggled in the games he had played before this at times, but this was the definitive proof that there was a gem there, even if it needed some polishing. It certainly earned him more chances and more trust, and there’s now a very solid library of Conor minutes in the first team for any new coach to watch.

Sadly that hit from the 1st of October was about as good as things got for us this season.
