Insider refuses to shut the door on Mount deal

Ben Jacobs has just dropped his weekly exclusive column on Caughtoffside, and as you’d expect there’s some juicy Chelsea content in there.

The transfer story dominating the mind of every Blues fan right now is that of Mason Mount. We desperately want him to stay, but he’s set to leave unless a new contract can be agreed.

It seems 99% likely that won’t happen, and Manchester United are front of the queue to sign him, but there still seems to be a tiny chance that incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino is able to convince both the player and the club to find common ground where so far there has been absolutely none. Watching Mount’s body language at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, it looks like the jig is up.

But CBS Sports’ Jacobs insists otherwise:

“Chelsea will sell now if he doesn’t agree a new deal because the fee will prove important. Manchester United are advancing things. Liverpool and Arsenal remain interested.

“Manchester United’s starting valuation is around £15m lower than Chelsea want, should Mount not opt to stay. It’s also important to note, Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep Mount, but it remains to be seen whether he can influence things.

As we know, Jacobs is well connected at Chelsea at the highest level, and he wouldn’t be preaching hope if there was none to be found. Don’t hold your breath, but it’s not 100% over just yet.
