Chelsea could be saved from £295k a week mistake of last summer

Get French Football News are proving a strong conduit for the increasing links of Saudi Arabian clubs to Premier League superstars.

They led the story of N’Golo Kante’s move to Al Ittihad, and now they’re talking about another Blue potentially heading out to the Middle East for an early retirement.

Kalidou Koulibaly only arrived at the club a year ago but really struggled in the Premier League. Chelsea have since signed a couple of really talented young defenders and also have Levi Colwill returning from a very strong loan, so they’re suddenly oversubscribed at the back.

Shifting Kouliably would be ideal, but he’s well past 30 and on huge wages (as much as £295,000 a week according to the Transfer Room), so our prospects of that looked bleak – until Saudi Arabia came calling.

The defender is apparently open to the move, so it will just come down to the clubs in question making their pitch. The report from GFFN says that he will be able to join “whichever Saudi side he wanted.”

With Kante, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema all signed up already, and further important and high value moves expected, Chelsea could yet end up using this as the perfect chance to dump a lot of unwanted players and wages from last summer on another sucker.

Do you think we can find a Saudi club for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy too?
