Chelsea failed in ambitious late attempt to hijack €42m move

Football Insider have a lot of exclusives – or at least things they claim are exclusives. And today they report on an interesting angle on Alexis Mac Allister’s move to Liverpool.

The Argentina midfielder has just completed a €42m move to to Merseyside which was in the works for a long time – a real bargain for an Argentina regular – thanks to a release clause in his contract.

The Football Insider article adds the interesting detail that Chelsea “pushed late on” to “steal” the midfielder.

He will be on £150,000 a week at Liverpool, trebling his Brighton wages, and Chelsea apparently offered even more than that. But Mac Allister had long been convinced by the project that Liverpool were offering, and it was always going to be very difficult for Chelsea to disrupt that, even with fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino coming in as our new manager.

Our attentions remain focused on Mac Allister’s erstwhile Brighton teammate, Moises Caicedo.
