Chelsea finally get midfield movement underway with bid for 1 cap 19 year old

The summer stretches out ahead of us now – but we all know it will be over in the blink of an eye. That’s especially true in football, where we will playing friendlies in July and Premier League football by early August. The worst thing any club can do – especially one with a vast amount of squad surgery to do like Chelsea – is get complacent and think that they’ve got time. They don’t.

So while we’ve yet to see any official signings made yet, it’s nice to see increasing talk of bids going in and talks being started rather than just the preliminary chatter with agents and clubs.

Romeo Lavia has been linked to us since last August without much progress, but now we’re starting to hear concrete claims that things are progressing beyond vague interest in the recently relegated Southampton midfielder.

Football London’s piece today says that the club have “opened talks” with the Saints about Lavia, and while we are still a long way from the end of the road, we have at least begun moving towards the conclusion one way or the other.

Lavia is valued at €25m by Transfermarkt and is just 19. He’s not a perfect player, but he’s a very good one, and if we wait around too long to try and sign someone like Moises Caicedo, who may be impossible to buy, we could end up with nothing.
