Chelsea have accepted that Kepa could be their number one next season according to good source

Kepa Arrizabalaga warms up.

Matt Law’s article in the Telegraph today is all about Chelsea’s goalkeeper targets, and he has plenty of detail about the pursuit of Andre Onana and Mike Maignan to make any Blues fan excited that they may yet end up with a shiny new keeper.

But there is also a cautionary line in there which claims that the club are preparing for the worst:

“While Onana and Maignan are Chelsea’s top targets for the goalkeeping position, the prospect of starting next season with Kepa as Pochettino’s No 1 has not yet been ruled out.”

That’s enough to chill the blood of plenty of Blues fans who are sick to the back teeth after years of watching long shots fly past Kepa into the Chelsea net. But it seems more than just a remote possibility now.

Maignan and Onana are going to be very difficult to sign, and we have to really be preparing for the possibility of another season ruined by incompetent goalkeeping. We are once again going to be stuck with the dilemma of risking the large sum it would take to sign one of these guys, or waiting another whole year for a perfect option that may never appear.
