“Chelsea have opened talks” to sign defensive midfielder as club start revamp

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign a new midfielder this summer as they look to revamp that area of the pitch.

We recently had the Manuel Ugarte saga, where Chelsea were pursuing the Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder but losing out to PSG. Now Chelsea’s attentions are turning elsewhere and it is in the direction of Southampton’s defensive midfield starlet, Romeo Lavia, at least as one of the options.

Sources: Chelsea consider keeping Mason Mount this summer whether he signs new deal or not!

We do not expect Chelsea to only be signing one new midfielder this summer, with it being an area that Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to rebuild in, depending on departures of course.

The news came from a couple of sources on Twitter last night, with Bobby Vincent from Football London tweeting the following.

Chelsea have been keen on Lavia for sometime, after reports of an offer being rejected for him last summer. But as you can see also from the above tweet, Chelsea still want Moises Caicedo as well as any pursuit for Lavia.

It’s going to get busy!

  1. Lavia is not a player Chelsea need to rebuild the team, they need a strong midfielder if they need to compete the European giants, they should focus on other quality midfielders and not the forementiomed
