Chelsea legend believes Mauricio Pochettino should put his foot down with club on big decision

New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino should put his foot down with the club, according to one Chelsea legend today.

The Mason Mount saga is one that is growing awfully tired on the majority of Chelsea fans right now, but it’s also a situation that still needs sorting out one way or the other.

Will he stay? Will he sign a new contract? Will Chelsea accept Manchester United’s offer? Does the player even want to stay? These are all unanswered questions that really do need answering now as Pochettino prepares to take his first pre-season session at Chelsea next week.

It’s not something that is ideal at all, far from it, and Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf believes that Pochettino should put his foot down with the Chelsea board if he really wants to keep hold of Mount in his squad.

Writing in his latest exclusive and extensive Chelsea FC column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea today, Leboeuf said: “If [Mason Mount] wants to stay then you do all you can do keep him. Give him the money he deserves if you really want him, like with Reece James.

“But the club should make the statement, ‘we want you to stay because we love you and think you’re a good player. we want to give you want you want. If you don’t want to play for us anymore, then we will sell you.’ The club should be clear, Mauricio Pochettino should be clear as well and put his foot down and say ‘no, I don’t want Mount to leave.’”

  1. He wants to leave, and should be allowed to leave. Afterall he already requested to leave since he’s got no interest in signing a new deal. No point coaxing or cajoling him to stay, anyone not motivated by the Chelsea project should be kicked out.
