Chelsea long way from pushing for transfer in revealing comments on international duty

Mauricio Pochettino is widely expected to be a big fan of Conor Gallagher. The midfielder is home grown and hard working. He’s hungry for a breakout season at Chelsea, and Pochettino will be looking for all of those things as he forges a new group.

It looks that his appreciation will be mutual. Speaking to Nizaar Kinsella after featuring for England in their 7 goal stuffing of Malta, Gallagher enthused about the prospect of working with Pochettino.

“He’s a top manager, everyone at Chelsea is happy he’s here and we’re looking forward to working with him,” he said to the Evening Standard.

That really doesn’t strike us as a player looking to move away from the club. Chelsea might be keen to sell if a big offer comes in, but Gallagher doesn’t look like he’s going to be encouraging them.

That becomes especially true if, as expected, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both leave. That removes two players with similar profiles from the squad and leaves us a little light – selling Gallagher at that point would become very unlikely.
