Chelsea feel they have signed a “three in one” player in Christopher Nkunku, according to a piece by Matt Law about the transfer, which was announced by the club today.
It reveals some interesting backstory and details about the deal, which has its genesis more than a year ago.
The Blues moved last summer to secure Nkunku ahead of time for this summer. That allowed them to secure a relatively cheap deal. If they hadn’t wrapped it up in advance, they’d be competing with a lot of top teams searching for a Champions League level striker. 58 goals in two seasons will get every team in Europe who wants an attacker interested – and there are plenty who want attackers.
Nkunku fills a need for Chelsea up top, and can also be deployed as a replacement to the departing Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, as a number ten or a wide player.
That’s why Chelea’s transfer team believe they’ve signed a “three in one player” according to Law’s report.
