Chelsea “plan” to use Kepa as number one goalkeeper next season – but we won’t believe it until this happens

Sky Sports are reporting that they “understand” that Mauricio Pochettino is planning to go into next season with Kepa Arrizabalaga as his number one goalkeeper.

It’s a chilling thing to read for Chelsea fans who have watched this cycle time and again. So many seasons in a row have now been ruined by a lack of a really reliable number one goalkeeper.

Part of the problem has been the changing managers. Each one comes in, tries out Kepa, then tries out Edouard Mendy, then realises neither is good enough. By then, they’re already well on their way to losing their job. Meanwhile the fans have to watch each person who comes through the door go through the same process, and we can’t bear to see Pochettino be the latest.

Still, this has no confirmation from any really reliable source yet, and we’re seeing the Blues linked to a lot of goalkeepers. Until that stops, we won’t believe that we’ve given up on finding a better number one.
