Chelsea still intend to pick up Mason Mount contract talks with club and Pochettino wanting him to stay

The Mason Mount contract situation has become one of those sagas that has just got everyone involved and everyone around it just completely frustrated.

Mount himself is currently on his holidays after another season came to a close, and he has been spotted at the F1 in Barcelona this week alongside team mates Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Whatever is happening in these negotiations with Chelsea, and it all depends on which side you read the info from on that front, nobody really knows what has been said and done with all this.

Manchester United are hovering around as the most interested club right now, but the fact remains that if they want Mount they will only get him if he decides he wants to leave Chelsea and only if they pay Chelsea a fee that they want. Right now, they are far apart on that, and Chelsea also still intend to sit down and speak with Mount about a new deal.

This is according to insider Ben Jacobs, who has put all the latest out on this in his exclusive and extensive Chelsea FC column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea this week.

Jacobs says: “Ultimately, everything will come down to fee if Chelsea decide to sell. The club always intended to pick up talks with Mount at the end of the season, and both the owners and Mauricio Pochettino want him to stay. But if Mount decides to leave, Chelsea do want the fee.

“Chelsea’s valuation is £15-20m higher than suitors ideally wish to pay. Manchester United are hoping for Mount for under £60m. So now it’s up to the clubs with Mount, and as crucially whether Chelsea still have a hand to show.

“The Mount camp, as I understand it, feel like the goalposts with negotiations moved in January, although Chelsea have consistently maintained they have done everything in their power since the new owners came in.”
