Chelsea surprised after being denied permission for latest sponsorship deal

The Premier League has denied Chelsea permission to use Paramount as a sponsor next season for fears it would offend the division’s broadcasting partners.

An exclusive story in the Daily Mail reveals that the club were shocked to find out that the league wouldn’t support their deal, after hoping to conclude a major deal with the American company – which does not itself show football in this country.

League bosses told them that it was a non starter, sending Chelsea back to the drawing board. Three’s deal has now expired and won’t be renewed, and Paramount Plus seemed a great replacement. But in the end, after their denial, gambling company Stake.com looks favourite.

It’s not just Chelsea executives who see this as surprising. Plenty of other around are saying that it’s quite unprecedented, and have pointed out various inconsistencies when looking at the sponsors that other clubs have. We may hear more about this story.
