Cesar Azpilicueta is set to leave Chelsea any day now to join Inter Milan.
The defender has another year of his contract remaining, but the Blues will terminate his deal early in order to allow him a free transfer to the Italians. They know his playing time is going to be even further reduced this season as Malo Gusto arrives to back up Reece James, and having ended his dreams of a late career move to Barcelona a year ago, they probably feel they owe him this small favour.
Our good relations with Inter have probably helped on this front, and it’s likely we see further transfer activity between the two clubs as the summer goes on.
Italian sources like the Corriere Dello Sport claim that Azpi is all lined up and ready to go to Serie A, and it’s just a question of paperwork now. Azpi will depart the club as a true fan favourite and our top overseas appearance maker ever.
