Chelsea’s worst defensive performance of the season according to the stats

We’ve had a look back at Chelsea’s best and worst statistical games of the season in recent articles, and today we are going to try and remember our worst performance of the season in terms of expected goals against – that is to say, in which game did we given away the most chances against us?

Our worst performance of the season in that regard was the week 32 loss to Manchester United in the penultimate game of the season, so you don’t have to cast your mind back too far.

It was just one of those games. Mykhailo Mudryk had the chance to score early on but fluffed his lines, and from there United were just ruthless. We still had out chances in the game – Lewis Hall was a menace – but while we had Kai Havertz heading wide and hitting posts, Man U had their players ruthlessly putting the ball away.

So while it was our worst defensive performance in terms of the stats, it was actually weirdly a game that could have gone either way, despite the final score of 4-1.f
