Bayern Munich’s right back situation is becoming strangely Chelsea related, mainly thanks to the presence of former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarian giants are ready to sell Benjamin Pavard this summer, which will leave them short on that side of defence. They have a couple of brilliant young talents, but need some experienced cover.
Kyle Walker was reportedly ready to sign on a cheap deal after being snubbed for a starting place in Manchester City’s team in the Champions League final, but that deal no longer looks likely.
Bayern have Chelsea defender César Azpilicueta on their shortlist as a potential alternative to replace Benjamin Pavard if a deal for Kyle Walker cannot be completed. Instead, Tuchel is turning to another Premier League veteran he knows well – Cesar Azpilicueta. The right back is expected to have even fewer chances to play for us this season after we signed Malo Gusto to back up Reece James, and a season in Munich probably winning the Bundesliga does sound fun.
We doubt Chelsea would stand in his way if an offer did come in.
