“I don’t’ care” – Pundit tells Chelsea not to sell key player this summer

There are some very good football pundits out there right now but unfortunately they are few and far between.

One of my personal faves right now is former Scotland and Rangers striker Ally McCoist – I often find myself agreeing with most things he has to say on football, and today is no different.

The Mason Mount situation is complex, but the bottom line according to a fresh report from Football London this morning, is that in an ideal world, Mason Mount would like to stay at Chelsea. However, there has been disagreement over the structure of the new contract and there has not been one offer made to since January, a 12-month extension he turned down.

McCoist has waded in on the Mount situation at Chelsea, and he is absolutely spot on in my view.

“I don’t care if you’re Chelsea; I don’t care what team you are; it’s important to have players that have a relationship with the club. It’s not the be-all and end-all, but it’s important to have that,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“I wouldn’t be letting Mason Mount go based on ability, first and foremost, and I certainly wouldn’t be letting him go in respect of what he means to the supporters and how he feels about the club.”

If Chelsea have not offered Mount a new contract since January and even that one being a short-term deal, then they need to pull their fingers out and do all they can to get him to sign a new contract rather than selling him to a direct rival this summer. It’s madness.
