Monaco have been linked with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. The former first choice keeper is up for sale, and it sounds like the Principality club are interested in the 31 year old as a replacement for Alexander Nubel, who will be leaving them and returning to his parent club Bayern Munich.
Get French Football News report that Mendy, who has two years left on his current deal, is seen as a potential ready made first team player for Monaco, meaning he would return to Ligue 1 where he made his name with Rennes.
It’s a relief for Chelsea to even hear any whispers about interest in the stopper, who they’re clearly trying to get rid of. There has previously been a pretty ominous silence every time his name is floated out there as a potential sale.
We clearly want to shift both Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer, but so far there has not been much interest in either. We can’t progress with signing a new first choice stopper of our own until we have cleared some space in the dressing room and on the books, so we need a deal like this one to advance pretty quickly.
Transfermarkt value the Senegal star at €18m, and that seems about right for a player who the whole world knows we want rid of, who is over 30 and coming off the back of a season where he lost his place in the team.
