Journalist tips returning loan player to start for Chelsea on the opening day

With the Premier League season now well and truly over now by a good few weeks, we can start turning out attentions to next season.

And last week, we were able to do this even more so with the full Premier League fixture list being released and clubs being able to see who they will be playing and when they will be playing them.

Chelsea got Liverpool on the opening day of next season, and there is a belief from one Journalist today that returning loan defender Levi Colwill, could well get the nod to start that game.

Colwill of course has been on loan at Brighton all last season, and they would quite like to sign him on a permanent deal. But according to Ben Jacobs, writing in his latest extensive and exclusive Chelsea FC column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea today, Chelsea have no intentions to sell Colwill and have some big plans of their own for the player.

Jacobs wrote: “Obviously Brighton would love to sign Levi Colwill, who enjoyed his time on loan at Brighton. And it’s clear they are trying. But Chelsea’s position remains the same: Colwill is not for sale. He is viewed as an elite-level prospect.

“I expect Mauricio Pochettino to handle Colwill in the same way Mikel Arteta treated William Saliba after he returned from a loan spell at Marseille. When Colwill comes back for pre-season training he is likely to be challenged to break straight into the team, and if all goes well over the summer, I don’t think Pochettino will hesitate to put him into his XI. It wouldn’t remotely surprise me if he starts against Liverpool.”
